Shiatsu
Shiatsu in Japanese means "finger pressure".
The origin of Shiatsu lies within the ancient Oriental
system of the energy pathways called meridians. Shiatsu works by
stimulating and balancing the body's flow of the energetic
pathways
in order to promote wellness. A Shiatsu Practitioner uses techniques such
as stretching, holding, rocking and applying pressure with thumbs, fingers,
elbows and even knees and feet to the meridians to improve the circulation of
energy.
Shiatsu affects the receiver physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually
by activating the parasympathetic nervous system which promotes deep relaxation
and healing and provides an avenue for the receiver to get in touch with his or
her own healing abilities. Shiatsu
provides nourishment to the organs, muscles, bones, and tissues, stimulates the
circulation of fluids and energy and activates the hormonal system. A
Shiatsu treatment usually leaves one with a feeling of deep calm and of
being more open and in touch with body and self.
